Solène Brun holds a P.h.D. in Sociology of Institut d’Études Politiques de Paris.
Titled “Race trouble. Making and negotiating racial boundaries in two cases of mixed families in France”, her dissertation combined the study of two family settings in which racial mixedness is particularly salient : international adoptive families and mixed-race families. The empirical analysis of these two specific cases opens the way for a thorough inquiry of racial categories in France, their production and their daily consequences and impact, as well as for an investigation of racial socialization in the French context.
Her current research projects aim at the investigation of mechanisms of racial (re)production within the family, focusing particularly on medically assisted reproduction and the racial pairing of gamete donors and couples, in France.
Associated research of the Observatoire Sociologique du Changement, Solène Brun is also teaching the sociology of ethnic and racial inequalities at Université Paris 8 – Saint-Denis.
