Ce livre explore comment le nombre croissant de réfugiés entrant en Europe à partir de 2015 a joué sur la peur des différences culturelles, religieuses et ethniques à travers le continent. La crise des migrants, ou des réfugiés, a suscité un débat acharné sur les normes et les valeurs européennes, certains commentateurs se demandant si les réfugiés, pour la plupart musulmans, seraient en mesure d’adhérer à ces valeurs et de s’intégrer dans une société européenne à prédominance chrétienne. Dans ce volume, des philosophes, des juristes, des anthropologues et des sociologues analysent certains de ces débats et discutent de stratégies pratiques pour concilier les valeurs qui sous-tendent le projet européen avec le multiculturalisme et le pluralisme religieux, tout en sauvegardant les droits des réfugiés à demander l’asile.Les études de cas de pays présentées dans le livre proviennent de France, d’Allemagne, de Grèce, de Hongrie, d’Italie, des Pays-Bas, de Pologne, d’Espagne, de Suède et du Royaume-Uni ; elles représentent des États ayant une longue histoire d’immigration, des pays où l’arrivée de réfugiés est plus récente et des pays qui veulent tenir les réfugiés à distance et refusent d’admettre même le plus petit nombre de demandeurs d’asile.
